ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Communications Specialist supports publicity and communications efforts for Charlotte Motor Speedway’s aggressive schedule of events, which includes two NASCAR Cup race weekends, two NHRA race weekends, a national car show, World of Outlaws race events, Speedway Christmas and other secondary events throughout the year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Support communications staff in publicity planning and execution for NASCAR, NHRA, AutoFair, World of Outlaws, Summer Shootout, Speedway Christmas and other events as assigned
· Generate press releases/advisories, photos and videos to support public relations and communication efforts as part of the department’s internal content creation team
· Serve as initial point of contact for event-time credential requests, with direction from Communications Manager and Senior Director of Communications
· Regularly update internal media contact databases used for outreach and communications
· Prepare post-event media recaps as needed using Cision and other media monitoring software to support departmental recaps
· Manage photo archive system and coordinate event photographers
· Assist with departmental needs around event weekend logistics (food orders, vendor POs, managing comp ticket, etc.
)
· Pitch media outlets for coverage to promote events and build facility brand during both event and non-event times
· Work closely with the Senior Director of Communications to best position CMS with all media outlets on local, regional and national levels
· Support the Manager of Social and Digital Content on social media needs
· Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· One to three years of experience generating content and/or publicity in media relations, communications, public relations or media fields
· Demonstrate experience in designing and implementing successful PR campaigns
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite and AP Style
· Diversity in various mediums including video, photo, social engagement, web, etc.
· Experience dealing with media at press conferences and/or at events
· Superior verbal/written communications skills
· Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail
· Ability to work independently as well as in team environments
· Position requires ability to work nights and weekends
· Position may require occasional travel through Speedway Motorsports workshare program to other facilities to support other events
