Position Summary: The Outreach Specialist is instrumental in planning, developing, and delivering professional SERC branded products and events to raise awareness and train external stakeholders on reliability and security of the bulk power system.
The Outreach and Publication Specialist works with management and technical and communication experts to design, develop, and deliver professional, brand-elevating, eye-catching and technically accurate content to our external stakeholders.
This position reports to the Manager of Communications, Outreach & Training and is located in the Charlotte, NC office and also subject to SERC's hybrid workplace policy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with SERC staff, presenters, subject matter experts and guests to facilitate and coordinate on-site, hybrid, and virtual training and outreach events.
Work collaboratively with internal and external subject matter experts to build agendas, secure speakers, and deliver valuable experiences for large and small audiences.
Collaborate in the creation of event content to meet desired learning outcomes and outreach program objectives and plans.
Gain cooperation from a wide variety of participants on operational processes, practices, and procedures to meet timelines and deliver work products.
Engage and coach authors, presenters and other stakeholders on timelines, content, editing, and overall branding.
Represent SERC and serve on the ERO External Training and Outreach group and Registered Entity Forum Steering Committee.
Prepare, write, edit, review, and finalize material for external distribution.
Collect data and compile reports to assess the effectiveness of outreach efforts.
Review and enhance material to meet outreach product and event objectives.
Maintain outreach and publication content on the SERC website.
Monitor, track, and coordinate responses to stakeholder questions.
Distribute identity cards, certificates, brochures, and other event material.
Provide excellent customer service and follow-up to reinforce trust in the SERC brand.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, technical writing, communications, marketing or related field or equivalent experience and education.
Minimum of five years of experience in event planning, public relations, business administration, publications, or related area.
Experience developing and delivering outreach content remotely and in-person.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with others, both inside and outside the organization.
Strong interpersonal and mediation skills, including the ability to negotiate issues to an agreeable conclusion.
Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple events, projects, or deadlines simultaneously.
Proventechnicalorbusinesswritingandediting Exceptional skills with Cisco WebEx, Microsoft Teams, or similar event hosting platform.
Exceptionalskillswith creating and editing with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Skills with Adobe Creative Suite (AdobeCreative Cloud, InDesign, etc.
) or similar, with a focus on formatting The ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences.
Additional desired attributes include: Collaborator - ability to work with peers, leveraging knowledge, skills, and tools to support and accomplish the group's goal.
Self-starter with ability to work independently and under limited supervision.
Resourceful - ability to track down information, find solutions to problems, and communicate effectively.
Project management experience is a plus.
