Overview:
The Manager of Internal Communication leads internal communication strategy for a group of Novant Health hospitals.
Develops employee communication plans that achieve hospital goals while also supporting corporate goals.
Provides PR strategy and support on issues specific to assigned hospitals; responsible for media relations.
Partners with PR team to support overall PR strategy.
Partners with internal communication team to implement overall strategic communication plan on the local hospital level.
Formalizes best practices and coordinates communication/employee engagement events- employee forums, employee activities team, monthly leader meetings, employee advisory board.
The Manager of Internal Communication provides leadership in achieving ongoing quality, productivity and efficiency in the department.
The Manager coordinates communication activities that are system-wide projects, focusing mainly on culture, patient quality and safety, employee communication and issues management.
The manager uses available allocated financial and personnel resources to support communications priorities established by corporate leadership and reflected in Novant Health strategic objectives.
Communication audiences include Novant Health corporate and market/facility leadership, employees, physicians, Novant trustees, legislators, national trade association media and regional hospitals and health systems throughout the Novant Health footprint.

Qualifications:
Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in journalism, mass communications or a related field, required.
Experience: Five or more years as seasoned corporate communications professional with both internal communications and PR/media relations experience, required.
Supervisory experience.

Additional Skills Required:
Ability to cultivate trust and relationships among hospital leaders and employees plus local media.
Ability to juggle many projects and deadlines while keeping focused on overall strategy and goals.
Excellent writer with media relations experience.
Current and future trends/practice in area of responsibility; regulatory and governing standards, policies and procedures; information systems and software used in area of responsibility, such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Marketing Central; equipment used in performing assigned duties including new social media and technology such as Flip video; application of safety and infection control policies and procedures; skills in negotiating and consensus building; understanding of budgeting and purchasing processes; teambuilding, conflict management and interpersonal relationship skills; principles of adult learning and teaching methods/models; decision making, project leadership and consultation, delegation and communication skills; understanding of customer needs and expectations and knowledge for improvement to exceed customer expectations; exceptional writing skills and knowledge of print and publications.
