How You'll Perform the Role Interact with in-house and outside counsel to review, process and maintain dockets of filing and response deadlines.
Provide regular docket reports to include schedule of current patent and trademark matters that require responses, project summary updates, foreign filing listings, family trees of projects, and other ad-hoc reports requested by counsel and internal research and development team members.
Review correspondence from outside counsel and update internal IP docketing database with deadlines and other pertinent data.
Enter new patent and trademark matters into the docketing database.
Coordinate international filings with EU, UK and Canadian law firms and/or other foreign entities through US patent and trademark outside counsel.
Assist with intellectual property-related litigation, including docket and file maintenance, gathering and analysis of information, materials, documents, reports and evidence for preparation and in response to discovery.
Perform on-line searches of Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) records, industry databases, and general legal research.
Conduct searches for information regarding trademarks and patents.
Assist in obtaining documentation required for the filing of applications, statements of use, renewal applications, affidavits of use, and assignments.
Review and respond to correspondence from local and foreign counsel; prepare formal documents such as declarations, assignments, POAs and other documentation necessary to support foreign filings.
Perform research and compile data as requested by counsel, including general legal research and patent and trademark searches.
Coordinate the gathering of information from various business units and functional groups in connection with the preparation of analyses, contracts, and other legal documents.
Assist outside patent and trademark counsel in all prosecution phases of a matter from filing of application through to issuance of a patent.
Manage prior art libraries and charts.
Assist department attorneys with preparation of documents for IP related agreements and prepare redlines and associated schedules.
Communicate with internal business partners to collect information related to trademark searches and filings.
May conduct initial in-house trademark screening searches.
Research and gather evidence of trademark use for trademark prosecution and maintenance.
What We Need From You Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience 5+ years of relevant experience Prior in-house paralegal experience strongly preferred Manufacturing experience preferred Experience in US filings is required Thorough understanding and experience with the patent and trademark life cycle Knowledge and experience with trademark searching, due diligence, trademark prosecution, trademark watching, and trademark enforcement matters is a plus Database management and entry experience; experience with IP docketing is necessary Strong organizational skills; ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects and manage deadlines Detail-oriented with analytical and critical thinking skills, proactive, effective at multi-tasking, and able to work well under pressure Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Proficient in use of MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Attention to detail and ability to identify potential problems and recommend feasible solutions What You'll Get From Us Benefits With safety as our top priority and a commitment to employee well-being an important focus, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits that include medical, dental and vision insurance (including Telehealth options) as well as a variety of other well-being resources focused on mental, physical and financial health.
