Our TableTop Making Process:
The first step in our process is to Joint, Plane, and rip the rough lumber into boards.
This ensures the boards are straight and the same thickness.
Secondly, we mortise slots into the sides of the boards that we put hardwood tenons into.
These tenons both support the joint and help align and keep the panel flat during glue-up.
Next, we edge glue the boards together.
Because we edge joint before this process, there is no visible gap at all, and the joints are extremely tight and strong.
After the glue has dried, we cross-cut the ends square, ensuring square and flush ends.
After this, we prep any knots or voids on the panel with wood filler or CA glue depending on the size of the defect.
After this, we sand the tabletops and edges to a smooth finish.
We also sand a small radius on the corners to ease the edge to a softer touch.
After this, we route our edge profile.
Our standard edge profile is a small chamfer.
Finally, we brand the bottom of the tabletop with our Cypress DesignWorks Brand.
If chosen, the top will then move to our finishing booth where three coats of General Finishes Polyurethane will be applied using our HVLP spraying system for a silky smooth finish!
