JOB GOAL
Provides leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students; provides supervision to students in a variety of school related settings; monitors and evaluates student outcomes; and develops, selects or modifies lesson plans to ensure student educational needs are met.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develops lesson plans based on the North Carolina Career & Technical Education Essential Standards document that will cover all parts of the Energy and Power curriculum provided by SREB (Southern Regional Education Board).
Provides instruction in selected areas of Energy and Power: Generation, Transmission, and Distribution to ensure that students gain appropriate knowledge and skills about the industry and are prepared for a career and postsecondary opportunities.
Facilitate student learning in researching, designing and building a series of authentic, hands-on projects that will enable them to understand the interplay of the generation, distribution and use of energy.
Engage energy and pathway students in a variety of hands-on, authentic projects to learn about energy and power methods through the design and construction of motors, pumps, heat exchangers, hydraulics and pipeline systems.
Instruct CTE energy and power pathway students in Ohm's law, Joule's law of heating, root mean square, Pythagorean Theorem and trigonometric principles to understand how energy travels along power lines and is converted from direct current to alternating current to end up, ultimately, in homes and businesses.
Prepare CTE energy and power CTE concentrators to sit for a NI Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD) or other relevant industry certifications.
Provides normal maintenance of equipment to ensure that inventory is up to date and available.
Utilizes classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate.
Uses appropriate techniques and strategies which promote and enhance critical, creative and innovative thinking capabilities of students.
Coordinates CTE Student Organization activities for local, regional, state and/or national competition.
Attends District PLC meetings as scheduled
Works with staff and post-secondary institutions to develop and maintain career pathways, which prepare students for apprenticeship, certification, community college, or university degree programs.
Maintains appropriate records and follows all policies and procedures of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Follows all safety procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills & abilities
Knowledge of emerging trends, resources and technology related to the Energy & Power industry
Knowledge of equipment to be used within the Energy & Power classroom(s)
Knowledge of Ohm's law, Joule's law of heating, root mean square, Pythagorean Theorem, and trigonometric and other related principles
Knowledge of the construction for power methods such as motors, pumps, heat exchangers, hydraulics, and pipeline systems
Knowledge of computer technology and electronics
Knowledge of Common Core and NC Essential Standards
Knowledge of safety requirements for aviation
Ability to assist in the fabrication and design phases of their projects
Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established time frames.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
Education, Training & Experience
Residency License(s):
Bachelor's degree in a related area and
24 credit hours in the content area or
Passing the NC SBE Licensure Area Exam and
Completion of NCSBE Pre-service Requirements and
Enrollment in EPP (Educational Preparation Program)
OR
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position
CTE Restricted License(s):
Bachelor's degree in a related area
Two years related experience within the past five years and
NCSBE approved specialty area exam and
NC DPI sponsored New Teacher Induction Program
Certificates, Licenses & Registrations
CTE License - Technology, Engineering, & Design Education (820) or
CTE License - Manufacturing (74090) or
CTE License - Trade & Industry Education (740)
Preferred qualifications
Knowledge of emerging trends, resources and technology related to the energy and power industry.
