Summary: Assists the teacher or principal by helping students to achieve the standards and objectives of excellence as set by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Works cooperatively with the principal and teacher in providing a classroom environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional programs and available resource materials.

Assists in the instruction of individual students or groups of students in all curricular areas as directed by the teacher.
Plans and works with the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing skills and concepts based on the understanding of individual students-their needs interests, and abilities.
Operates and cares for equipment and materials for instructional purposes.
Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.
g.
classroom, playground, emergency drills, field trips, etc.
) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Interact and have conversations with children during outside, meal and center times
Interact positively with children, parents, and colleagues and facilitate positive interactions among children
Collaborate and share ideas and strategies with other team members
Facilitate children?s efforts to be self-managing
Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
Participates in in-service training programs for professional growth.
Assists with school routines and transitions.
Assists in checking materials and portfolios, , supervising and assessing students as directed by the teacher.
Assists with student attendance procedures, record keeping, collecting money, ordering materials, and other tasks as assigned.
Assists in keeping classroom learning centers c
Participates in the daily bus car, and van transportation duties involving children?s arrival and departure to and from school.
Performs related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED and
Shall hold or be working toward (a minimum of six documented semester hours per year) a minimum of an Associate Degree in early childhood education or child development (ECE/CD) or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential) or meet the employment requirements of NCLB legislation and have one of the following: six documented semester hours of coursework in early childhood education or two years of work experience in an early childhood setting.
