POSITION SUMMARY:
The Aquatics Swim Instructor provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming lessons and private swim classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with American Red Cross or YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate, refers students and parents to other programs.
Maintains records as required (i.
e.
attendance, progress reports, etc.
).
Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
Organizes and puts away needed class equipment.
Reports damaged equipment.
Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Certifications: CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer, Emergency Oxygen, New Employee Orientation and Child Abuse Prevention Training within 60 days of hire.
Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with American Red Cross and/or YMCA standards.
American Red Cross Swim Instructor or YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
At least 15 years of age.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to walk, stand, and sit (in water) for long periods of time.
Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
Must be able to lift and/or assist participants up to 50 pounds in weight.
Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
